Day’s End
The fiery red sunset
Casts cotton candy
Inverted images
Atop the shimmering water;
Looking like the end of the world,
Flaming colors streak
Across rooftops in the distance;
Bloated water-pregnant clouds
Hang low like dingy fleece
pillows,
Their hazy reflections
Cast mirror images
On the grey-green Bay;
A majestic blast furnace
Of Halloween burnt orange
Glows against the razor sharp
horizon;
The day slowly folds itself
Into a blanket of night
As darkness shoves
The ruby scorched sky
Beyond the August skyline
